Falkland Islands Archers visit Nonsuch!

Last weekend (20th & 21st June 2015) we were visited by some members of Falkland Islands Archery Association! Nonsuch has previously shot against the Falklands during postal matches, so it was nice for some of our members to actually get to meet the archers they’ve been shooting against face-face.

The Falkland Islands Archers were over here as they are to be competing in the Island Games in Jersey this week. So from all at The Nonsuch Bowmen, we wish you good luck!

Chessington Bowmen Junior Team Shoot 2015

Jun 132015

On Saturday 13th June 2015, a team of Nonsuch juniors headed to Chessington Bowmen to take part in their Junior Team Shoot. The shoot was held in memory of Jason Griffiths (a Level 1 coach who did a great deal for their junior archers), and at the start of the shoot each team captain shot a whistling arrow as a tribute to him (a video of this can be found here).

This event was very different to most archery competitions, as they were shooting to London Youth Games rules and were not in their usual Archery GB age categories. Team results cane be found here and the Individual results can be found here.

The Nonsuch Bowmen Junior Team was Robbie Avis, Cameron Faber, Osbourne Hancox and Flynn Bowler.

Unfortunately, they didn’t win, but they came 5th which isn’t too bad – especially given the fact we had one compound archer shooting recurve!

Well Done Boys!

Nonsuch shoot for Action for M.E.

May 272015

On Sunday 31st May 2015, we held a charity shoot in support of Action for M.E. We currently have a former club member (daughter and sister of two current members) who is affected by M.E. which unfortunately caused her to stop taking part in archery.

For those who aren’t aware, Action for M.E. is a charity that provides support and information to people with M.E. while campaigning hard for better public services and research into the illness.

Thank you to those who attended the shoot and generously donated £250! Those of you who were unable to attend are still able to donate, as Linda Skeet has kindly agreed to receive donations on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings this week. Alan Avis will then send the total sum to Action for ME.

Mole Valley Bowmen Wand Shoot

May 202015

On Sunday 17th May, Mole Valley Bowmen held their annual Wand Shoot. A wand shoot (for those who don’t know) is where archers shoot at a 6ft x 4in (HxW) target at 100 yards (Gents), 80 yards (Ladies), and the various appropriate junior distances. There are also two bow categories: Longbow and “Other” (Recurve, American Flat Bow and Barebow) – Compounds and Crossbows aren’t allowed.

For this particular shoot, Team Nonsuch was represented by Linda and Katrina Skeet, John Croft and Simon Spencer. All shot extremely well and finished with some brilliant results:
Linda Skeet & Simon Spencer – Team Bronze Medal
Linda Skeet – Bronze Ladies “Other”
Simon Spencer – Joint 3rd Gents Longbow
John Croft – Joint 5th Gents Longbow
Well done to all!
